Riding With Purpose

Update: June 6, 2024

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this cause. Your support and generosity have been truly inspiring. Though I did not reach my fundraising goal, I am grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for some incredible organizations and a truly worthy cause. The fight against HIV/AIDS is far from over, and I remain committed to doing my part in the battle. With your help, we were able to raise $1,233 to support the critical work of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Thank you for joining me in this journey, and let's continue to ride with purpose!

Wishing all of the cyclists and supporters of AIDS/LifeCycle 2024 a safe and successful ride!

As I prepare for the AIDS/LifeCycle 2024, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, I can't help but feel a deep connection to the cause. As a gay man, the impact of HIV/AIDS on my community over the decades is a poignant reminder of the ongoing battle against this disease. This ride is more than just a physical challenge; it's a commitment to make a difference.

AIDS/LifeCycle: More than Just a Ride

This remarkable event, taking place from June 2nd to 8th, 2024, is not only a test of endurance but also a powerful statement in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Organized by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the ride aims to reduce new HIV infections and improve quality of life for those living with HIV/AIDS.

The Harsh Reality of HIV/AIDS

Despite advancements in medical care, HIV/AIDS continues to pose a significant threat. In San Francisco, while new diagnoses have been declining, disparities persist. In 2021, the HIV diagnosis rates were 3.3 times higher among Black/African American and 2.8 times higher among Latino men compared to white men. The proportion of new diagnoses among people experiencing homelessness also increased, highlighting the need for more focused efforts[1].

In Los Angeles County, there were 50,466 people living with HIV in 2021, and the number of late diagnoses remains a concern[2]. Nationally, there were an estimated 32,100 new HIV infections in 2021, with a 12% decline from 2017. However, the rates of new infections are not uniformly distributed across states and regions, with the highest rates continuing to occur in the South[3].

Why I Ride

I ride because I've seen the impact of HIV/AIDS on our community. I ride because I believe in the power of collective action and community support. And I ride because I want to contribute to a healthier future for us all. This cause is not just a distant concern; it's part of my history, my present, and my hope for a future free of AIDS.

The Route and the Challenge

The ride starts at the iconic Cow Palace in San Francisco and winds through various scenic stops before concluding in the vibrant city of Los Angeles. It's a test of endurance, commitment, and heart. But every mile is a testament to our resilience and dedication.

My Goal

I am committed to raising $3,500 for this cause. By supporting my ride, you're not just backing a cyclist; you're investing in life-saving services and education. Donate here.

But your support doesn't have to stop at donations. Share this post, spread awareness, and find ways to contribute to similar missions in your community. Together, we can work towards a world free of AIDS.

Join me in this journey, support this cause, and let's pedal towards a brighter future together!
